Curriculum

Rolando Giovannini graduated with a degree in Geology and a diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, Italy. He is a Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Verona and the former Principal of the Istituto Statale d’Arte per la Ceramica “Gaetano Ballardini” Liceo Artistico per il Design Ceramico (State Art Institute for Ceramics and Ceramics Design School) in Faenza, Italy, from 1986 to 2012. He is the author of books on ceramics and founded the NeoCeramica Movement in 2007. Giovannini has undertaken research on ceramic and neon. His works are held at 3the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and at the Shin-Kobe underground railway station in Kobe, Japan. He was invited to the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Biennale of Venice (2011, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi), BLA BLA, Milan (2013, curated by Alessandro Mendini, in the section "Mano e Terracotta" curated by Maria Christina Hamel), Arte Ceramica oggi in Italia, Villa Necchi Campiglio, Milan (2013, curated by Jean Blanchaert), Design Capillare, Milan (2014, curated by Alessandro Mendini and Alessandro Guerriero), Sharing Design, Fabbrica del Vapore, Milan and Argillà/Mano e Terracotta Faenza (2014, curated by Maria Christina Hamel). Recently, he participated in shows and conferences in China (Foshan, Shanghai, Zibo, Fuping 2009/2013), Turkey (Izmir 2013), USA (Santa Fe, Milwaukee 2012/2014), Croatia (Zagreb 2014), Slovenia (Sencur 2014), Ireland (Dublin 2014). He is a member of NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, USA), of MI.MA (Milano Makers), and IGIIC (Italian Group International Institute for Conservation), since 2013.
